SMALL BUSINESS SKILLS AND TRAINING BOOST

Small businesses with an aggregated annual turnover of less than $50 million will be allowed an additional 20% tax deduction for external training courses delivered to employees by registered training providers. The boost applies to eligible expenditures incurred from 7:30 pm on Tuesday 29 March 2022 until Sunday 30 June 2024. The bonus deduction is available for expenditure for the provision of training to one or more employees of your business. CHANGED LAWS FOR FOOD STANDARDS CODE IN AUSTRALIA

Standard 3.2.2A is a recent addition to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. This change means that from December 8, 2023, new requirements will be enforced for food businesses across all Australian states & territories. If your business prepares and serves food, then this change affects you. The new requirements need to be met by any business that prepares or serves food in any Australian state and territory. Standard 3.2.2A outlines the need for a food safety management system within a business, by introducing the following three tools: Food Handler Training Food Safety Supervision Record Management The specific tools that a business needs to implement is determined by the category of business. Changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code mean that new requirements will be enforced from December 8, 2023, for food service businesses across all Australian states & territories. CHILDREN'S WEEK EXPANDS IN BALLARAT IN 2023 26 October 2023

Children's Week 2023 returns from 23-28 October and will this year be expanded to offer more opportunities for families and young children to be involved throughout the week. Children's Week is celebrated nationally and recognizes the skills, talents, achievements and rights of children. The 2023 theme is "children have the right to relax, play and to take part in activities they enjoy", which is drawn from a simplified version of Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This year, there will be multiple free events held at various City of Ballarat venues including Parent Place, Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre, Ballarat Botanic Gardens, the Art Gallery of Ballarat, and the libraries. The events will include craft sessions, interactive story times and physical activities. Psychosocial hazards are a critical aspect of workplace safety and employee wellbeing that often go unnoticed. These hazards encompass the psychological and social factors within the work environment that can adversely affect an individual's mental and emotional health. They can manifest in various forms, including stress, harassment, bullying, burnout, and the general quality of the work atmosphere. Chronic exposure to psychosocial hazards can lead to severe consequences, such as reduced job satisfaction, increased absenteeism, lowered productivity, and even long-term health issues. Under the model WHS laws, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must manage the risk of psychosocial hazards in the workplace. Up to $15,000 is currently available to regional communities to program and present shows in their area. CITY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM SEEKS EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The City of Ballarat is seeking Expressions of Interests from local organisations or entities that would benefit from financial assistance to deliver programs, projects or activities that provide community and economic benefit to Ballarat. In its second year, the City Partnerships Program for the 2024/2025 financial year will undertake a different process than its inception for the 2023/2024 financial year. This time interested parties will be required to initially complete the EOI, with invitations to formally apply for a partnership to be delivered at a later date. But remember, just as we prioritize our physical health, our mental health deserves the same attention and care. In Victoria, the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (the Act) commenced on 1 September 2023 to: promote good mental health and wellbeing for all Victorians reset the legislative foundations for the mental health and wellbeing system support the delivery of services that are responsive to the needs and preferences of Victorians establish new roles and entities recommended by the Royal Commission puts the views, preferences and values of people living with mental illness or psychological distress, families, carers and supporters at the forefront of service design and delivery. BALLARAT BULLDOGS PARTNER WITH GRAMPIANS HEALTH 27 September 2023

The Western Bulldogs Ballarat office has joined forces with Grampians Health on a potential partnership relating to its international nurse recruitment program.¯Since an initial approach from Grampians Health, the Western Bulldogs provided tickets to international employees and their families to attend the Round 20 AFL game at Mars Stadium in Ballarat, to watch the Western Bulldogs take on GWS. For most of the international employees, AFL is a foreign concept. However, since the first game in Ballarat in July, Grampians Health had people return to watch the game at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne in August, along with the Bulldogs' AFLW game in September. FED UNI RESEARCH INTO LIFESTYLE CHANGES TO COMBAT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

We wish to congratulate the team at Federation University for their ground-breaking research into lifestyle changes to combat high blood pressure. It's so amazing seeing leading research come out of Ballarat. The international team of experts was led by academics from The Healthy Regions Intervention (THRIVE) group at Federation comprising Professors Fadi Charchar, Colette Browning, Britt Klein, Shane Thomas and Dr Priscilla Prestes. BALLARAT HOUSING STRATEGY 2023-2041

The Ballarat municipality is expected to grow by up to 55,000 new residents by the year 2041, and our new residents will need about 29,000 new dwellings of different types and sizes to call home. We want to ensure we achieve a balanced approach for managing residential growth while also maintaining the valued character and natural features of our city and townships. Exciting News - Commerce Ballarat has taken on a new project the Central Highlands Growers and Producers Hub. This project commenced in the Hepburn Shire and was supported by Agriculture Victoria. We aim to showcase and connect growers and producers as well as creating a place for restaurants and cafes to source products closer to home. The Hub is a multifunctional website that allows you to place your business profile online alongside your colleagues in the industry. UPDATE TO FOOD SAFETY TRAINING

Food Standards Australia New Zealand has introduced a new standard in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code; Standard 3 2.2A Food safety management tools. This will become part of Australian food law on 8 December 2023. Under the standard, all food handlers * must have received training that includes safe food handling, food contamination, cleaning and sanitising and personal hygiene. A food handler refers to anyone who is involved in any activity that involves food or surfaces likely to come in contact with food, including those in: preparing - such as chopping, cooking, thawing, delivering and transporting, packing, serving, cleaning tableware or equipment that comes in contact with food. BALLAARAT MECHANICS INSTITUTE SPRING BOOK SALE FUNDRAISER 14 September 2023

In this Fundraising Event for the Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute, pre-loved books have been gifted to the BMI by members and the Ballarat Community. The funds raised support Library Services, Community Art Projects and Heritage Collection. Book prices range from $2 to $10 (some pictorial books are priced a little higher). There is a range of fiction and non-fiction, a small range of children's books, books on cookery, art and craft, gardening and some local heritage books. MR JONES DINING CELEBRATES 10 YEARS 14 September 2023

So much can happen and evolve over 10 years. When Mr Jones laid down roots on Main Road they were converting a flower shop, Anne's Flower Basket into their first iteration of Mr Jones Dining, the award winning Catfish Thai. Catfish Thai was a bold red-and-black space designed by Russell & George and opened in 2013. In 2018 they took on a new challenge and reopened as Mr Jones, a modern Australian eatery serving plates packed with produce from the local region. In recent years they have returned to there original love and passion of asian fare. Mr Jones current menus allow for more creativity, while keeping traditional cooking techniques. It will be 10 years for Mr Jones Dinning as of next Saturday the 16th of September, so make sure to head down and celebrate with all of the team from Mr Jones Dining! Read more »

GRANTS FOR SMALL REGIONAL PRESENTERS

If you're a community group or not-for-profit organisation based in regional Victoria, the Small Regional Presenters grant can provide you with funding to program and present shows in your area. The program also supports local skills development and capacity building by encouraging the development of long-term plans and audience development strategies. The 2023 Small Regional Presenters program will be delivered by Regional Arts Victoria for shows being staged between 1 March and 31 December 2024. UPGRADE FOR BALLARAT'S EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Ballarat families in the Grampians region will continue to receive the best healthcare with a bigger and better emergency department now welcoming patients at the Ballarat Base Hospital. A $5 million investment has upgraded the hospital's existing emergency area - alleviating pressure and reducing patient wait times. The upgrade means more people will get the emergency care they need with a new 10-bed unit, consultation room, treatment room, medication room, staff station, two patient ensuites, modern offices, and staff amenities to ensure a seamless and comfortable environment for both patients and staff.
