UPDATE TO FOOD SAFETY TRAINING

Food Standards Australia New Zealand has introduced a new standard in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code; Standard 3 2.2A Food safety management tools. This will become part of Australian food law on 8 December 2023. Under the standard, all food handlers * must have received training that includes safe food handling, food contamination, cleaning and sanitising and personal hygiene. A food handler refers to anyone who is involved in any activity that involves food or surfaces likely to come in contact with food, including those in: preparing – such as chopping, cooking, thawing, delivering and transporting, packing, serving, cleaning tableware or equipment that comes in contact with food.
