Tourism Midwest Victoria Deaf Awareness Training for Tourism and Hospitality

In preparation for Sovereign Hill’s Auslan Day event, Tourism Midwest Victoria has partnered with Darren and Briana Beath from Auslan in the West to offer Deaf Awareness Training for local tourism and hospitality teams. This hands-on workshop will empower front-of-house staff to better serve deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors.

This is a fantastic opportunity for your team to:
• Gain valuable insights on effective communication strategies with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Learn cultural sensitivity and best practices for providing excellent service to deaf customers.
• Help ensure your business offers a welcoming and positive experience for visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Your staff will learn about:
• Deaf culture and community
• Communication techniques for interacting with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals
• Technology used by deaf and hard of hearing people to aid communication
• How to book an Auslan Interpreter
• Basic Auslan signs including the alphabet, numbers, greetings, drinks/food, and key visitor service phrases
