The State Government has allocated $5.4 million in the recent budget towards implementing
the Local Government Fair Jobs Code and establishing a new regulatory body, yet councils that
will ultimately be required to implement the Code seem to be in the dark about its detail and
impact.

Victorian Regional Chamber Alliance Chair, Jodie Gillett is deeply concerned by the lack of
transparency around these changes, “It is unacceptable for the State Government to have spent
years developing this Code with local councils and business shut out of the process.”

The Local Government Fair Jobs Code is a proposed framework intended to improve job security
and working conditions in the local council sector. It also includes creating a new regulatory
body to monitor compliance with the Code. However, the actual regulatory compliance
