Business Day Out 2017 - Evaluation Report

The fifth annual Business Day Out was held at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre on Wednesday 31 May 2017. All attendees were given the opportunity to provide feedback post event via an online survey. 182 people attended Business Day Out 2017. 47 businesses completed our post-event survey. 100% of the survey respondents said they would return if the event was to be held in 2018. 100% of the survey respondents said they will recommend the event to others. SV Boosting Business Productivity Grants news - June 2017

The Victorian Government's Boosting Business Productivity program now has a materials efficiency grants component, which is open to manufacturing businesses. Sustainability Victoria is offering support to manufacturers wanting to find materials efficiency solutions to their waste problems, which will result in more efficient use of materials and less waste sent to landfill. Grants of up to $13,000 per business are available. Up to $10,000 can be used for expert advice from a materials efficiency assessor. A $3,000 incentive is also on offer for businesses to put in place materials efficiency solutions. Eligible businesses must have the potential to significantly improve materials efficiency and have less than 200 full time employees. An assessor will work with each business to tackle the root cause of its waste problem, understand the 'true cost of waste' and develop a business case for investing in cost-effective solutions. Have your say on Labour Hire Licensing

The Victorian Government recently released its full response to the Inquiry into the Labour Hire Industry and Insecure Work and confirmed its intention to introduce a licensing scheme for labour hire firms. The government is now undertaking a scoping study to determine how the scheme would operate, its coverage and the licensing model. The Victorian Chamber is advocating strongly against such a scheme. The Senate has passed legislation to scrap the low-value GST-free threshold for online purchases from overseas retailers, but there are still a few hurdles in the way before Australian businesses will see the change in action. The bill was agreed to in the upper house with an amendment from Shadow Small Business Minister Senator Katy Gallagher on Monday, with the change meaning the new framework will kick in on July 1, 2018 - one year later than was originally slated.
