Business Award Winners

Are you a past Business Award winner prior to 2006 or know of someone that was?  Commerce Ballarat wants to compile a comprehensive list of winners since the awards began in 1988.  Please email the business name, the year and the category won to  kara@commerceballarat.com.au as soon as possible.

New Commerce Ballarat Employee

This week we welcome Kara Johnston to the team at Commerce Ballarat.  Having worked in insurance in Ballarat for six months, Kara decided a chance to work for the businesses of Ballarat was too good to pass up.

Here is Kara’s profile:

Growing up with cold temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius at times, in northern Canada, my family moved to Victoria, British Columbia where I completed my studies.  After spending five years with the Medical Services Plan of BC, I travelled to Europe.  Travelling around Europe on holidays and weekends was a great experience while working with the Surrey County Council.  I made Guildford my new home where I met my partner, who is from Ballarat.  We travelled across the UK and the US before arriving in Ballarat to set up a home.  Having enjoyed six months in Australia already, I’m looking forward to meeting new faces and enjoying the seasons Ballarat has to offer.

An AFL-standard playing surface for Ballarat is a step closer to reality.  Turf laying works as part of $950,000 Northern Oval upgrade were finished late this week.  The new couch grass surface has 11 weeks to settle in to be ready in time for the North Ballarat Football Club’s first VFL season home game against Collingwood on May 2.

A dry orientation week at the University of Ballarat aims to settle students in comfortably and prepare them for the rigours of study. Vic-chancellor Pfr David Batterby said binge drinking was a growing problem which needed to be addressed.
