Established in Ballarat in 1935, Haymes Paint is Australia's largest 100% family owned and operated paint manufacturer. The colourful history of Haymes Paint began when Thomas Jefferson Haymes, opened a combined paint contracting and general hardware business in a small shop in Ballarat. In a bold move in 1935 Henry Haymes, son of Thomas, left the family company to start his own paint manufacturing business, Henry Haymes Pty Ltd. It wasn't long before the new business was enjoying considerable success and was able to open additional stores in Geelong, Bendigo and Melbourne.
David Haymes took over the role of Managing Director in 1974. Under his leadership, along with his vision of “every person in Australia having the opportunity to try his productsâ€, the business has continued to grow. David's passion for his products is renown from his description of the family connection to the business as having ‘paint running through his veins' and his simple philosophy that ‘we never take short cuts on quality'. It is now a truly national company employing more than 130 employees across five states and distributing its products through ten company owned retail outlets and over 400 independently owned distributors in all states in Australia, as well as exporting to China and South East Asia.
Along this long road to success, Haymes completed an Owner/President Management Program at Harvard University's Graduate School of Business, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business by the University of Ballarat for “his outstanding service to business and the communityâ€.
