About the Awards
The CGU Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards are the highlight of the business sector’s year. Held in August each year, as part of B31 Business Month, the gala Awards Presentation evening is the culmination of months of excitement and expectation during which businesses have gone through the nomination, application and judging process.
The Awards are an opportunity for residents, customers, clients and business people to recognise the contribution they and their fellow businesses make to our city’s economic and social fabric.
They are an opportunity to recognise innovation and excellence and to celebrate the wonderful opportunities offered by Ballarat and surrounds to those who aspire to reach the very peak of their industry.
To be part of the Awards nominate yourself or a fellow business and then undertake the application process. Whether or not this process results in you becoming a finalist it will definitely be of benefit as you take a fresh look at how your business is operating now and gain new insight into existing and potential opportunities for growth and development.

The Process
All nominees will be mailed an application booklet and further information. Application information workshops are organised by Commerce Ballarat throughout the application process. Applications closed on 20 June. After applications close, a judging panel, consisting of experienced independent business representatives drawn from diverse backgrounds, are divided into pairs and assigned their category/ies. The judges then assess all applications in the category/ies they had been assigned in order to determine finalists.
The judges will conduct site visits of the finalists in each category the winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner to be held on 30 August at the Mercure Hotel & Convention Centre.
