Trauma's impact on neurodevelopment can have significant implications for young people reengaging with education. Current themes from positive psychology and wellbeing research are embedded within our practice to form a strengths-based holistic lens to strategically build relationships and achieve academic outcomes. Learn how our experience has relevance far beyond the classroom toward flourishing families, relationships, professional settings and communities.

Guest Speaker: Tom Brunzell, Senior Advisor of Teaching and Learning, Berry Street Victoria

Tom Brunzell (MS, EdM, PhD candidate) has over a decade of experience as a teacher, school leader, and education advisor in New York City and Melbourne. Currently he is the Senior Advisor of Teaching and Learning at Berry Street Victoria. Tom presents internationally on topics of transforming school cultures, high expectations for differentiated instruction, trauma-informed practice, wellbeing and the application of positive psychology, and effective school leadership. He is also a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Graduate School of Education studying trauma-informed pedagogy, positive psychology, and their impacts on workplace meaning.
He received his bachelor degree (B.A.) from Yale University, then a teaching masters degree (M.S.T.) from Pace University and a school leadership masters degree (Ed.M.) from the Bank Street School of Education. He has presented professional development for Teach for America, KIPP, the National Centre on Education and the Economy (NCEE), Teach for Australia, Foundation for Young Australians, Independent Schools Victoria, DEECD, the Centre for Strategic Education and the Victoria Curriculum and Assessment Authority; and lectured at the University of Melbourne and RMIT.
