Changing Needs – ‘Future Ready' Australia Post The Internet is having a dramatic impact on the way we shop, sell, communicate and transact. Customers expect organisations such as Australia Post to keep pace with their changing needs. In response to this challenge, Australia Post announced its ‘Future Ready' business renewal strategy in 2010, which is now well underway. At its core, Future Ready acknowledges traditional markets have shifted dramatically as a result of eCommerce and is designed to position Australia Post to take advantage of the significant opportunities this presents. Despite the continued global economic uncertainty, eCommerce continues to grow in Australia and is expected to outpace the growth of the traditional retail sector. This presents a significant opportunity for Australian businesses to take advantage of this eCommerce boom. Richard Umbers will discuss how Australia Post is reshaping its products and services to respond to the demands of an online shopper and businesses trading online, and how Australia Post is investing in innovative services outside the traditional areas of expertise of a postal organisation. Guest Speaker: Richard Umbers, Executive General Manager Parcel & Express Services at Australia Post Richard joined Australia Post in 2010 as Executive General Manager eServices, where he was responsible for driving business growth by offering our customers multi-channel access to Australia Post products and services. Richard holds responsibility for delivering the enterprise Parcels strategy. Richard has previously held a range of senior and General Management positions in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) retailing, most recently at Woolworths where he was General Manager Customer Engagement. Prior to this, Richard was Managing Director of supermarket chain Progressive Enterprises Ltd. in New Zealand, and Managing Director (North West UK and Republic of Ireland) for supermarket discounter Aldi. His strong international retailing experience gives him a great insight into supply chain management and he has a strong track record of developing innovative programs that deliver new revenue streams. Richard has an honours degree in Geology and Geography from Exeter University (UK), and a Masters in Finance from the University of Leicester (UK).
